A year or two ago, my British friends used to send me camera phone photos, and tell me all about this 'crazy street artist', Banksy. Since then, i've followed him and have become a huge fan of his work. Banksy cleverly uses stencils and street art to satirize government, authority and society. His first appearance in new york, was his 'pet shop' in the village, which was only open for a few days. I went to see it with a couple of friends and I was actually pretty impressed, (photography of the shop by Jesse Santana).
After the shop's closing, Banksy continued his work in new york with a piece on grand:

After the pet shop, Banksy began to sell his work more publicly, as he sold the rights of his book to Urban Outfitters along with other stores, many of his followers were upset as they believed he was starting to sell out. Additionally, he recently premiered his movie 'Through The Gift Shop' http://hypebeast.com/2010/04/banksy-exit-gift-shop/. I'm looking forward to the movie but It's hard to ignore that he seems to be moving in the direction of wealth and popularity as it contradicts much of his work.
